Farmers Markets -
In an effort to bring the four impact neighborhoods together,
the CBMC has decided to create a 9th Ward farmers market as
a community cohesion project. Markets have the potential to create
neighborhood economies reflecting the diversity of place. More

Recreation - The CBMC
has made recreation and the improvements of playgrounds a priority.
They have been working with the Army Corps of Engineers and
Friends of NORD to renovate 7 playgrounds in the impact area.

Vacant
Lot Cleanup -
Many vacant lots in the Inner-Harbor Lock Replacement Impact
area are not being maintained by their owners. The CBMC has
designed a program that will help residents of the impact area
maintain vacant lots in their neighborhoods by offering a free
one-time lot cleanup to any neighboring property owner who
is willing to sign a letter of commitment to continue the upkeep

Job Training - The Construction
Skills Enhancement Job-Training Program was successfully implemented
in FY 2003 with the third and fourth classes receiving training
in FY 2004. To date, 42 residents have been trained and 16 residents
are currently enrolled in the training program. More> |
Housing - Improving housing conditions for low-income residents in the Impact Area has been one of the CBMC's critical concerns. Since its inception, the CBMC has attempted to shape a housing improvement program that could meaningfully impact the conditions of housing in the Mitigation Area. More> |
