Facts About Mitigation
- $38 million dollars has been granted for mitigation in
the following impact neighborhoods (Lower Ninth Ward, Holy
Cross, St. Claude/Florida, Bywater) to help mitigate the
impact of the Army Corps of Engineers Industrial Canal Lock
Replacement Project
- Between 2001-2005, a total of over $1,000,000 has been spent on mitigation projects in the impact area. These mitigation projects have included Job Training Programs at Xavier University and Nunez Community College; an Integrated Communications System between Industrial Canal bridge towers and police, fire, and EMS units; additional police patrols on the east side of the Industrial Canal; playground improvements, and the Vacant Lot Maintenance Program.
-
The Community-Based Mitigation Committee (CBMC) is a collective
of concerned neighborhood residents who are working to implement
improvement projects in the impact neighborhoods as part
of the mitigation process
-
Participation in the CBMC or the mitigation process does
NOT indicate support for the Army Corps of Engineers Lock
Replacement Project
-
The CBMC has collective ownership of the Community Impact
Mitigation Plan while the Corps has approval authority for
new plans
-
The CBMC meetings are open to the public
-
You do not have to be a CBMC member to participate in the
mitigation process
-
More neighborhood representation is needed!
