Committee will guide $35 million N.O. lock-impact mitigation plan
NEW ORLEANS --
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its consulting team are seeking
up to four at-large members for a citizen committee to oversee and guide
the $35 million Community Impact Mitigation Plan to be implemented during
replacement of the Industrial Canal Lock in New Orleans.
To date, the Corps and its consulting team, headed by Gregory C. Rigamer & Associates,
have asked eight groups to appoint one member (and one alternate) each
to the Community-Based Mitigation Committee:
- Lower 9th Ward Neighborhood Council, Inc.
- Bywater Neighborhood Association
- Holy Cross Neighborhood Association
- Desire/Florida Area Community Council
- Crescent City Peace Alliance and St. David ACT, acting jointly
- Merchants Association, newly formed
- Holy Cross School
- St. Bernard Parish
In addition, with this news release, the Corps and the GCR team are
soliciting for people to serve as the at-large members. To ensure broad
representation, we seek individuals not affiliated with the groups above.
They will be full members of the Mitigation Committee and, as such, will
have the responsibility to inform neighborhood residents of Mitigation
Committee activity and report what the residents have to say.
The deadline to submit applications is Tuesday, January 4, 2000.
Questions or additional information: Mr. Creig Brown or Ms. Gail
Barnes-McConduit of Metro-Source, L.L.C., 504-529-5001.
